Understanding Your Drinking Water Quality Report

Each year, Project 7 Water Authority provides customers with a Drinking Water Quality Report, also known as a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). This document is designed to inform you about the quality and safety of your tap water, and it ensures transparency regarding where your water comes from and how it is treated. Here's a breakdown of what you can typically expect to find in a Drinking Water Quality Report:

1. Source of Your Water

This section identifies the source of your drinking water, which may include rivers, lakes, reservoirs, or underground aquifers.

It may also provide a brief description of efforts to protect these water sources.

2. Water Quality Testing Results

The report details the results of tests conducted on your drinking water.

It lists any detected contaminants, such as lead, nitrates, or bacteria, along with their levels.

You'll see how these levels compare to federal and state standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

3. Explanation of Detected Contaminants

This portion explains the potential health effects of any contaminants that were found above regulatory limits.

It often includes background information on why certain substances might be present (e.g., natural erosion, agricultural runoff, or treatment processes).

4. Compliance with Regulations

The report states whether the water system met all drinking water regulations.

If there were any violations, the report will explain the nature of the violation, the steps taken to correct it, and any potential health implications.

5. Educational Information

Special information is provided for vulnerable populations, such as infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

The report often includes tips on how to further protect your water quality at home.

6. Important Definitions and Units

Terms like "Maximum Contaminant Level" (MCL) and "Parts Per Million" (ppm) are clearly defined.

This helps readers understand the data presented in the report.
